Sittin' Here Knittin' - Old one

Ramblings about Knitting and other important stuff

Time for a yarn diet. I hate balancing my checkbook. It's always so depressing.

Stella of She Who Knits is hosting a Gigi-a-long. I may be on a yarn diet but that doesn't I can't keep on knitting by golly! I'm hoping some yarn I ordered a while back will work for Gigi. It's GGH Davos in red and white. I don't know about the white part but I think I'd really like the body of the sweater in red. Hopefully I'll be off my diet before I need to buy the contrasting color yarn.

Bottoms Up

Bottoms Up

Photo Time

Here are some photos of what I've been talking about. The bottoms up is done and turned out a bit too large. It starts out cute but as I wear it, my head shrinks. Wait. I think it gets stretched out or something. I am thinking about making my next one a size smaller. Here is a photo of the yarn I plan on using for the Bottoms Up 2.

Vogue Update

Here are a couple of shots of the Vogue sweater progress. It may be quite some time before this gets finished. I love the color variations and how it's coming along. I am going to HATE finishing this thing because of all the ends I'm going to have to sew in. I'm so lazy about sewing in ends. I really think it's going to be a beautiful sweater though.

Critter Blankie

The blankie is coming along nicely as well. Last time I measured it was 18" by 11" so not much longer now and it will be finished. My stash has entirely too much red heart type yarns and I plan to continue making these blankies until it is all used up. I have held onto the stuff for so long because I can't stand the thought of throwing out yarn. I also can't stand the thought of using that yarn to make something to wear. This appears to be the best solution I have come across so far.

Great Weekend

This weekend was great for my knitting. It was really bad for my camera though. Or I should say, none of the photos I took of the knitting came out, thus the camera and I had a fight. I think I may forgive it and try again tonight. I'll let you know tomorrow if we made up.

The Vogue sweater now has three rows. I should clarify this by stating that a row is made up of the diamonds (see the post from April 16th for a better idea of what I mean) that are worked diagonally. So, three rows is actually a pretty big deal considering how long it has taken me to figure out how to make one diamond.

The bottoms up hat is done and I bought more yarn for another one cause I LOVE it so much. I made good progress on the critter knitter blankie. And I cast on for a flower washcloth from the Weekend Knitting book.

Very little knitting happened yesterday. I did get my Bottoms Up re-cast on but that was all. I'm very much looking forward to a quiet weekend with a little movie watching and lots of sittin' and knittin'.

No News Is Good News?

I had no time to knit yesterday because I was at a thank you dinner for the office. So instead of knitting I ate and ate and ate. The two things that make this good is that I ate wonderful food AND I didn't have to frog my bottoms up bucket again. We'll try that again tonight. *grin*

Booga Finished

Well, I'm slow but I finally downloaded this pic from my camera so I could show her off. She could probably due with one more round in the wash (I'm starting to be able to see stitch detail) but I really like the size and don't want her to shrink anymore so I think she'll have to do as she is.

Bottoms Up

Bottoms up got about 7 rows done in the brim when I realized I wasn't paying attention when I joined the brim and there was a TWIST in it. GRRRR. So, she's been frogged for the last time *fingers crossed* and I will attempt her again tonight. I even thought about ensuring there were no twists when I joined the two but as I was working it out I forgot why I thought that was so important and stopped. Dang, dang, dang. Super T was fabulous and helped me wind the frog back into balls (again, he helped the night before too). He did giggle a bit but was so sweet about it (he knew I was upset). That made it much better.

Knitting Policy

I've started a new knitting policy with the fam. I've decided if they want me to make them something they have to get me a picture (pattern would be better) and an idea of what color they want it to be and then I'll make it. I love making them all things but I hate the idea of becoming that relative that you get things from and hate. You smile and say it's wonderful because you know it took them a long time to make and obviously they thought it was fantastic. But then it goes in the closet to be taken out when they visit you. The horror!!

Who you callen a bjerk? *heehee*. I love this sweater and look forward to making it. I ordered the yarn yesterday. Some of it is on backorder so it may be a while before I begin but I'm very much looking forward to it anyway. Wendy is hosting an Ingeborg knitalong and I'm not comfortable with my ability to make that pattern, even though it's exquisite, so I decided to pick another Dale sweater and make it while they are making Ingeborg. Hopefully it won't be so different from the one everyone else is making that everyone gets all annoyed with my "off-topic" questions.

Day Dreaming

I need to stop spending the whole day dreaming about what I would like to be knitting. The list of things I want to make becomes very impractical based on the amount of time I actually have to spend knitting.

I bought a copy of Gigi from the lovely and talented Bonne Marie.

I've also signed up for the Bottoms Up Bucket Hat Along (also the creation of Bonne Marie) which I've already gotten everything for but haven't started. Well, that isn't exactly true. I started last night only to discover I was making the wrong size and ended up frogging the whole thing. SO, I'll be starting fresh again tonight. I'm making that in Lion Brand Cotton-Ease in Strawberry Cream. I'm trying to decide how I would like to embellish it.

After reading the post by Kerstin about not feeling guilty about my knitting I feel much better about all this daydreaming. So now I'm off to admire all the wonderful things posted in blog-land and to enjoy daydreaming about what I'd like to be knitting right now.

Boring Monday

Nothing much to post today. I have some pics of the finished booga bag but still have to download them from the camera. Didn't get much knitting done over the weekend. Super T and I spent Saturday by the river. Sunday I took a woodworking class through my local Woodcraft. It was very cool and I hope to be able to get more into that hobby. The setback with that is the cost. Dang, I thought that knitting was expensive until now.

Vogue Sweater

Vogue Sweater

Well, thanks to my LYS-most-wonderful-owner, I might just be able to make this. I was getting terribly frustrated with this pattern and almost shelved it. Turns out, either I was misreading the pattern, or the pattern was wrong or something else. Obviously it couldn't have been something I was doing wrong. *grin* Either way, we are back on track now and have three, yes count them, three diamonds done. Wonder how long this thing is going to take to make? Hmmm...

Vogue Kitty

Vogue Kitty

Tami keeps hearing me talk about all the "Vogue" stuff and decided she should pause in her playtime for a photo shoot. Dead sexy. And she knows it.

Needle Case

Needle Case

Needle Bag Too

I was inspired last weekend by all the wonderful needle cases I've seen on the web and decided that I should make one. It's not bad. I want to figure out a cute way to hold it closed. It would be more for decoration than anything else because it doesn't really flop open. The plastic-on-plastic design (I say this with a loftyness in my voice to indicate that it was completely thought out ahead of time and intentional) holds the needles in nicely as well as holds the case shut.
My next project with the sewing machine will involve a needle case for my straight needles. And maybe a skirt.

Booga Bag

The booga bag is coming along very nicely. I felted it last night and will post some completed photos. I'm thrilled with how fast it knit up and the completed size. I'd bet T is wondering where all the cereal is right now (I'm using them to block the bag). Heehee.

So I heard it was spring... I'm not buying it. Actually, we needed the water and it all melted by that afternoon. SuperT was thrilled that he didn't have to shovel the driveway.

GRRR. Been rebuilding my workstation. Might be a few days before I post again.

Friday, April 09, 2004

Got some great knitting done last night. I have determined that I need to either finish some projects or buy more needles. I'm thinking I'd better just finish some things. I am now working on Vogue Knitting Diamond Sweater (less than 1% complete), Afgans for Afgans square (15% complete), Critter Knitters Blanket (10% complete), Booga Bag (5% complete) and I am debating on doing the swatch for Marions' new sweater since I got all the lucious yarn for it yesterday.
I rationalized making the booga bag now, instead of waiting, because I need another bag to carry around all my WIPs.

No posting yesterday. Too busy handling spam complaints. I'll be very glad when our abuse guy gets back.

Knitting Update
I finally got gauge on my Vogue sweater and have started working on it. It is by far the most complicated pattern I've ever tried but I am having fun doing it. I just hope it turns out as cute as I'd like.
The FMB has finished blocking and can be seen here. I'm VERY happy with the additional shrinkage. It has firmed up nicely. Hooray. Now I know I just need to be a little more patient with my felting.
I'm working on a blankie for critter knitters and a square for the afganalong too. I found the Vogue pattern to be too complicated for chatting-while-knitting so I have those items going so I don't end up being the quiet girl that keeps ripping out her work. :D

New Car
I'm so happy with it so far. It's a zippy little thing. Still needs a name but I'm sure I can recruit some help thinking of one.

FMB Finished
Here and here are some pics of the very sad felted FMB. I actually like it quite a bit except for how "soggy" it seems. My DH was wonderful enough to help hold it up for one photo. I think I may toss it in the machine again tonight for one more round (or two) since you can still see quite a bit of stitch definition and to help it shrink and firm up a bit. That was what a wonderful lady recommended at my LYS today at lunch. She and I determined that if that additional round or two in the washer doesn't work out I may be out of luck. The wool I bought was very light in color and I've read, lighter colors don't felt as well due to the process used to lighten them. So even though I dyed them to a darker color, it still may not felt quite as well as a different yarn might have. We shall just have to see how the additional cycles do.

I love lunch at my LYS. The store is very accommodating to folks that want to just walk in an knit for a little while. How relaxing!

I'm still having issues getting gauge for my diamond sweater. I'll get there one day. I can't remember ever having this much trouble before. Then again, I don't know that I've done a gauge swatch every time I should have .

Since my first bag was a learning experience, I can't wait to start the next one. I plan to make the booga bag. I bought some Noro yarn just for this occasion but then chickened out and decided to make the FMB first to get all the kinks out of my plans.

Weekend Knitting
I got some decent knitting time in this weekend. At least I finished my blankie for the critter knitters. Should be able to get those mailed off early this week. Tami will be disappointed those blankies were not for her, but she doesn't really need more toys or blankies.
Mouse in the house
Tami loves to find new friends to play with. The problem is she like to bring them in the house to play. Crickets and moths I can handle, mostly because they are left in the middle of the floor and we can take care of them. She has now discovered the fun of mice. It's a small guy and at first I mistook him (I'm sincerely hoping its a him anyway) for one of her little toys until it took off running down the hallway. About this time I was standing on any available furniture trying to get the cat to understand that the mouse was no longer in the room she was guarding, but in the other room hiding and catching his breath. He hasn't been seen since. %*$&* mouse.
I bought a new car on Friday. She's a little blue 2004 Toyota Corolla S. She's so purdy! I'll have to link some photos in the next day or so. I also need to think of a name for her. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Knitty's Spring issue is out! Hooray for spring!

FMB progress
Felting completed. Blocking in progress. Whew.

Thursday, April 01, 2004

Photos. Yeah!

Click here to see the yarn I dyed hanging out drying. It was my first attempt at dying and I have to say I think it turned out rather well. It was more variegated than I expected but the colors were bright like I wanted. Here is a pic of my French market bag pre-felted. I'm still a little nervous about the washer so it still looks like this. Maybe I'll suck it up and felt tonight.

Critter Knitters
I've started another blankie for the Critter Knitters Knit-a-thon. I'm hoping to have it finished soon. It's knitting up really fast and I'd like to get the box mailed off before the end of next week.

Vogue Spring
I've started the gauge swatch for my Diamond Sweater from the spring issue of Vogue Knitting. I had to go down a needle size but that's the point of the swatch, right? I'm very excited about it. I found the yarn at (favorite online yarn store!) and can't wait to start on the sweater.
