Big News

No - I didn't buy yarn. *GRIN*

While I often refer to my DH as a DH on this blog, we have never officially tied the knot. We have been together for over seven years now and Colorado law views us as husband and wife but we've not been in any hurry to "finalize" things. Until last week. We have (our family would insert the word "finally" here) picked a date to be wed. Things may get a little quiet over here for the next few months as I'm already starting to lose my mind over the arrangements. Plus work. Plus other family weddings this year. I do have to admit I'm terribly excited about the whole thing though.

Sooo... the big day is August 27th on the sunny beaches of Florida. Anybody want to recommend some good wedding planner types of books?

Yay! I'm so excited for you both. If you need any help, just let me know. Sorry I don't know the names of any books, but I will ask my sister if she had any books she used or what. And you picked an awesome day! That's my birthday!

Hurray--congrats to you both. I got married on a beach; it makes for awesome pictures and an awesome memory :) I used one of the Idiot's guides--because I had no idea what I was doing. Remember to fit in lots of knitting time to help with the stress :) Hopefully I'll see you Friday at TC.

Congratulations! That's wonderful news-- I know my sister-in-law used theknot.com for lots of her planning type things. I was a devotee of the Martha Stewart wedding mags myself. It's stressful, but can be a really fun time as well. :)

Congratulations! It's not a wedding planning book but I couldn't have gotten through the craziness of planning my wedding without the book "Diary of a Mad Bride" by laura Wolf, it'll make you feel so much better and give you a good laugh during all the madness. Enjoy!

Also, your scarf should be on it's way by the end of the week so be watching the mail.

Wowie! Congratulations! Did you know that in Colorado, you can marry each other, i.e., officiate the marriage yourselves without a priest, judge, etc. DH and I eloped in Estes Park in 1999 (we did have a judge though, tee hee). How exciting for you both!

Many, many congratulations! Don't get too frazzled with the preparations, just focus on making it a day you and your fiance will enjoy and remember.

Yay, yay, yay! I'm so happy for you guys. How exciting. I have no books to recommend, just a big congratulations. (And I'll tell you the story of the three things that I didn't want to have happen on my wedding day, and all three of them did, and the lesson I learned from that some day when I see you next!)

Congrats! I recommend "The Engaged Groom" for your husband and Emily Post's "Wedding Etiquette" for you. You'd be surprised how many questions that book can answer!

Congrats on the wedding! We got married last April (the first!!) in Jamaica. We chose a "destination wedding" or a "Weddingmoon" and it was perfect. Nothing to do but invite friends to come along, pack a dress & show up! It was just what I wanted. I wanted to be relaxed, stress-free and just enjoy my wedding. We also didn't want to "rush into things," so we dated about 10 years!! On the bright side, at least you know you're ready! :D

For my wedding, I wanted to do my own hair & makeup (because I know the style I like and how I want to look). My friends kept saying go to the spa and let them do it. Best decision I made! I sat there and relaxed (at 7:30 am), drinking champagne, and someone else dried, curled, styled my hair, fitted my tiara/veil-thingy, and put on all of my makeup for me. It was FABULOUS. You're relaxing, not having a care in the world. When you're done, you go "Wow - I totally can't see that big zit that just popped up this morning!" and - as a bonus - you feel like a princess. I found some helpful articles on theknot.com & theweddingchannel.com. The main thing is just to have the wedding that YOU want.
Anita
PS I have a GREAT tip on wedding gowns. If you'd like it, email me and I'll be glad to share. Take care & good luck.
